Company description:: Free MIT was founded in Minneapolis Minnesota at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus to provide access to education for poor and minority students that could not get accepted at traditional schools. Potential students that failed to get awarded financial funding for tuition were provided donated textbooks and copies of student notes.
The Name Free MIT originally stood for Free Minnesota Institute of Technology and the Facility was located in the Old Minnesota Daily newspaper office across the street from the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Building on Washington Ave SE Minneapolis. In 1999, to avoid confusion with the MIT at University of Minnesota the name was changed to Free Masters of Information Technology or FreeMIT for short.
In 2002, with help from the Service Corps of Scientists and some Texas A & M enthusiasts Free MIT moved to Texas and began developing it's online presence with interactive student faculty support services. While Free MIT has no formal connection with Massachusetts Institute of Technology or the MIT Opencourseware project, we are excited to provide all their curriculum as well as learning aids and resources to complement the MIT OpenCourseWare.
